Our Snowglobes Story

I started making snowdomes 14 years ago after it occurred to me that maybe some improvements could be made to conventional snowdomes to make them more detailed, permanent and substantial. It took years of experimentation to arrive at the current custom snowdome we produce now.

Glass Blowing.

Glass blower Jim Norton hand blows the glass used as the snowdome tops. The glass is 1/4" thick, stronger, and more permanent than the thinner glass of manufactured snowglobes and snowdomes.
We live in the Purcell mountains. This shop is where we now make our snowdomes and thermometers.

Snowdome Studio-

The objects and figures inside the snowdomes are cut out and arranged to form the foreground and background of the scene to give the snowdome depth. Buildings and houses can be three dimensional so the details of the front and sides of the building are visible. The back of the glass is carefully hand- painted with a distant skyline, and a coloured glass glaze is permanently baked on. The interior scene is mounted on a ceramic base.
In the winter it seems like we are living inside a snowdome! It never stops snowing here and we never stop shovelling.
